The Chester County Youth Orchestra is a non-profit organization
and is sponsored by the Chester County Intermediate Unit.
The orchestra has many opportunities to volunteer your time and effort in order to improve the orchestra and help make the experience for the student musicians better. The orchestra is run by a board of volunteers and there are always opportunities to help during rehearsal and performances.
The orchestra currently has a number of open volunteer positions. Please consider helping the orchestra by volunteering to fill one of these positions. If you are interested in volunteering for one of these positions, please
Webmaster:
This volunteer will maintain and update the CCYO website with
all relevant information, such as updates to the names of
musicians, rehearsal cancellations, concert announcements, etc.
This positions requires a good understanding of web page design
and maintenance and will take a minimal amount of time during the
year, and a few hours of time at the beginning of each season
when more updates to the website are made.
Equipment Manager: The orchestra has a number of instruments (Timpanies, gong, drumset, etc.) that need to be transported to the venues where we perform. The orchestra owns a trailer, used to transport these instruments. The equipment manager brings the trailer to and from the performances and is reponsible for loading and unloading the trailer, as well as returning it to it's storage location at the CCIU in Downingtown. The equipment manager will need a hitch on his or her truck.
Editor of the CCYO newsletter: The CCYO produces two newsletters every season. The editor is responsible for producing this newsletter. This position has historically been filled by a student in the orchestra, but it can also be fillwed by an adult volunteer.
Coordinator for end of year concert: The last concert of the CCYO season is in the spring (this year on April 12, 2008). The orchestra has an afternoon rehearsal, followed by a dinner before the concert. During the dinner, the orchestra says farewell to the senior students, who will receive their traditional afghan blanket. We need 2 or 3 volunteers to help with the dinner setup (including ordering the food), takedown and cleanup. The cleanup can easily be done before the concert, so this does not mean you will miss the performance.
Concert and Rehearsal set-up and take-down: The orchestra can always use people to help with the setup and takedown of our venues for rehearsal and concerts. Generally this involves setting up and moving the musicians chairs for the rehearsal or performance and returning the venue to it's original state after the concert or rehearsal. For rehearsals, this can be done in about 15 minutes before and after the rehearsal, for concerts this involves getting to the location at the designated 'setup time' and helping after the concert until the venue is returned to it's pre-concert state.
